The meeting brought together two diplomats who worked on joint Arab affairs in the same years, at a time when Sudan sits high on the Arab League's agenda.

Weeks later, the Secretary-General travelled to Khartoum. On 26 October 2026 he met Sudan's Prime Minister, Dr. Kamil Idris, to discuss support for peace efforts in Sudan and the national dialogue track, and he met the head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, reaffirming the League's commitment to Sudan's sovereignty and territorial unity.
